Periodic Partial Discharge Monitoring for HV GIS
DMS’s UHF Portable PD Monitor is used to undertake periodic partial discharge surveys in substations to provide early warning of developing faults - enabling corrective action to be taken before complete breakdown occurs. Employing the same advanced UHF technology as the permanently installed PDMG-R System, the portable provides a PD monitoring solution for low-cost/low-value GIS where continuous, on-line PD monitoring would be uneconomical. The monitor, with integrated laptop, is easily transported in its heavy-duty, aluminium case. PD data from up to 3 UHF couplers is collected and stored, and the type of defect identified automatically through the in-built expert system analysis program. The collected data can also be retrieved remotely via connection to a LAN or modem. Additionally, the PDMG-P can be used to make the PD measurements now integral to high-voltage GIS commissioning tests.
