Pollution Monitor
Pollution from a multitude of sources (eg: salt from the sea, industrial pollution and dust or sand) can build up on the surface of outdoor insulation installed on transmission lines and in substations.
Partial discharge frequency (caused by dry-band arcing) and leakage current amplitude increase significantly as a result of this pollution and the flashover withstand of the insulation is reduced. Regular washing of the insulation is usually necessary and this is often an expensive exercise, with washing intervals having to be guessed.
DMS’s Pollution Monitor is a continuous, online and permanently installed device used to remotely monitor leakage current and partial discharges, as well as a range of environmental conditions. It provides users with valuable data to enable decisions to be made objectively on when washing is required and how effective previous washes have been – improving both efficiency and system reliability.
